Virtual Viking – VR Training Simulation
Role: Team Lead & Lead Developer
Scope: Internship-to-Full-Time Project / Enterprise VR Training Tool
Virtual Viking is a VR training application designed to educate users on fire protection systems. Originally developed as a college internship project by myself and three fellow students, the success of the prototype led Viking Group to offer us full-time positions and establish a dedicated VR division within the company.
As team lead and primary developer, I was responsible for architecting the backend and developing the majority of the frontend using C++ and Blueprints in Unreal Engine 4. I oversaw technical implementation, team coordination, and the delivery of a high-performance, production-ready simulation tailored for real-world field training.
In addition to my development responsibilities, I regularly represented the VR team at events and industry showcases—engaging directly with attendees to demonstrate our training simulations and gather feedback. I also presented our work during board meetings with Viking’s parent company, helping communicate the value and vision of our VR initiatives. Internally, I played a key role in setting up a dedicated VR lab at Viking’s facility, allowing visitors to experience our programs firsthand in an immersive, hands-on environment.
